Decorating shelves can be overwhelming and leave you unsure of where to start! At least that's how I felt when I first tried decorating the shelves. I often cry tears trying to figure out how to decorate my shelves without spending ages trying to find the right balance. And see if I can do it.

Many years ago I customized the method I use every time I style my shelves. And I promise, if you try it next time you're decorating, the result will be a perfectly stylish shelf every time!

My way of decorating my shelves is to organize the things I use. I'm going to arrange our shelves in different ways. Three methods with things from around the house, but I'll use the same layout to show you how easy it is to implement this method in your own home.

Always start with the top layer and work your way down. Starting from the top floor you will need to place the decorations from one end of the shelf to the other. It covers most of the shelf space.

Home Decor Storage And Organization

The key component to designer quality shelving is home furnishings with multiple floors of varying heights. For example, look at the image below, on the top layer, I did not just decorate it in layers. Only from one end to the other. But also be sure to use decorations that are of uneven height.

Some ideas for tall objects could be trees, such as snake plants, which can grow very tall. Large pictures placed vertically or horizontally and large decorations or lamps.

You want to make sure you add enough larger items that your shelves don't look cluttered. Your end goal is to make your bookcase or shelf look curated and thought out. Do not pile it high with all the beautiful things you yourself stuffed on top of it.

Once you have styled the top shelf you can go to the bottom shelf on this shelf we will group the decorations into two sections. Instead, they are distributed along the length of the shelf.

Floating Wall Shelf Home Decor

As you can see in the picture above. This does not mean that you can use one item on both sides of the shelf. But you can if you want a simpler look.

You can arrange multiple decorative objects together. The pieces are layered. Can be enjoyed but the most important part is to leave some space or white space between the two groups.

The goal was to make our shelves look modern as well. Instead it looked like we just had a bunch of stuff thrown in there. We want it to look intentional. And the two groups below help our eyes rest and look more attractive.

This method works no matter how many shelves or bookshelves you have. Just make the next shelf by decorating it according to the width of the shelf. Then make the next shelf in 2 groups and so on until all the shelves are decorated.

Rustic Diy Shelving Ideas To Try Now

When I'm done I like to stand still. And take pictures to help me see what else needs to be added or maybe something needs to be removed.

Taking pictures or at least looking through a camera really helps. To notice things that you may not have.

Below, I've shared a more simple look with just a few embellishments but using the same method of grouping embellishments. On every shelf

If your style is more farmhouse you just use more farmhouse decor. And use less boho or mid-century clothing.
